The Salt Lake City Police Department recently acquired three NeurOptimal® Neurofeedback systems as part of its Officer Wellness and Peer Support Program. These systems are being introduced to help officers manage stress, process trauma, and build resilience through non-invasive, brain-based training.

Michelle Peterson, Wellness Facilitator for the SLCPD, is leading the rollout – beginning with in-house training to introduce staff to NeurOptimal®, explain what to expect, and outline how it will be made available across the department.
The initiative is seen as part of a broader cultural shift – one that prioritizes wellness and helps normalize the use of supportive tools. This effort reflects a growing awareness within Utah’s law enforcement community of the potential benefits of neurofeedback –particularly NeurOptimal® – in supporting mental health and emotional resilience. The need is both real and immediate. Officers continue to serve under conditions of high stress and trauma – often without access to the tools that could make a meaningful difference.
That’s why real-life stories matter. Every step forward, every success story, helps accelerate change.
