Honoring Quiet Pioneers

At the heart of HeroBrain are those who walk quietly but leave a lasting impact. This is a tribute to the humble pioneers — the ones who saw the need, took action, and changed lives without ever asking for recognition.

While there are countless practitioners who should be honored here, this is just a start.

  • Nikki Sopchak – from Serenity Neurofeedback, whose unwavering belief in neurofeedback brought healing to countless first responders.

  • Dr. Jean Alvarez – from Cleveland Neurofeedback, trailblazer whose quiet brilliance shaped the early days of this work and continues to inspire.

  • Melissa “Missy” Sorrells – from Mindthrive, who has worked tirelessly, volunteering her time and expertise to support firefighters in Boulder, Colorado with unwavering dedication.

  • Suzanne Wiseman – from Wiseman Counselling Services, a respected psychologist in Toronto who has stood beside our heroes even in the face of skepticism and resistance regarding a technology that was new to them – she never gave up.

  • Dr. Janet McCulloch & Dr. Linda Beckett – from Kingston Institute of Neurofeedback and Psychotherapy who in 2010 boldly offered ten neurofeedback rooms simultaneously, creating an extraordinary space for veterans and first responders to begin healing.

  • Doug West – from DRW NeuroPerformance, is a therapist in British Columbia who, for over a decade, has supported first responders with commitment, compassion, and quiet strength.

First Responders Turned Practitioners

Some of the most remarkable Quiet Pioneers are first responders who, after experiencing the benefits of NeurOptimal® firsthand, felt called to become practitioners themselves. Their journeys have come full circle - from serving on the front lines to now supporting others on the path to healing. These stories reflect quiet leadership, deep compassion, and the kind of wisdom that only lived experience can offer. We welcome testimonials from or about first responders, active or retired, who became NeurOptimal® providers. Their perspective brings unique insight to this work - and we’d be honoured to share their stories.

These are only some of the voices and hands that built the foundation we now stand on. Their legacy is not only in what they’ve done — but in how they’ve done it: with compassion, courage, and a deep respect for those they serve.

HeroBrain is proud to carry their spirit forward.

One life at a time. Quietly, powerfully, together.

We also know there are countless unsung heroes out there — individuals making a quiet but profound difference every day. If you know someone whose story belongs in this tribute, we would be honored to hear from you. Please contact us to share their name and story.
